Europa Report - The Film Apollo 18 Wanted to Be

As much as I love horror, I have a deep fascination with space, so when you combine the two I get a little bit excited. Sadly, more often than not, when you mold the two you get something a little sub-par, for instance Ghosts of Mars, and most recently Apollo 18. But, then comes along something like Event Horizon, which perfectly blends the two and has both camps, horror and sci-fi fans loving the film. Its a match made in, well, hell.

So recently I got word of a new sci-fi horror flick which looks similar to another flick, Apollo 18. However, just simply watching the teaser trailer which you can see below, I can already tell that this one will be freakin' awesome! This looks set to be the film Apollo 18 really wanted to be. I can feel tones of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, and this has me very excited...

Where Apollo 18 failed to deliver its promise, Europa Report looks set to deliver on all fronts, the claustrophobic setting, the eerie darkness of space and the crippling fear of the unknown. Now, I may be totally wrong and this could turn out to be the biggest pile of space trash since, well, Apollo 18, but I highly doubt it, this one looks like the real deal, and I urge you to keep your eyes firmly on this one.

While I have been unfairly harsh on Apollo 18, I did in fact enjoy the film, that was until it got to the second half and I just felt totally underwhelmed, there was such a big build up and yet... Such a little payoff, perhaps it needs a second viewing. You tell me, was Apollo 18 that bad or am I off in deep space?

The film stars Sharlto Copley, Michael Nyqvist, Daniel Wu, Anamaria Marinca, Christian Camargo and Karolina Wydra. Sebastian Cordero directs.

Synopsis: "A group of astronauts, handpicked from around the world, make the arduous journey to Jupiter’s frigid, glacial moon Europa in search of extraterrestrial life. The only thing more intimidating and unpredictable than the trip itself is what the team will encounter upon arrival…"
