Better Grab the Garlic....

As it's the 32nd anniversary of The Lost boys, I thought I would list my favourite vampire movies.

Vampires have always been one of my favourite Horror movie monsters, they can be sophisticated and sexy but also terrifying and brutal.

My first film is one of my all-time favourites and I also consider it to be a romance film as well as horror.

The film in question is Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Gary Oldman portrays Dracula both on his human form and in his transformation to Dracula. This is one of my favourite roles of his, he becomes infatuated with Winona Ryders' Mina, the chemistry between the two is nothing short of amazing.

Usually it can be hard to like the antagonist but in this I'm actually rooting for Dracula, Gary Oldman brings a very human, sensitive side to Dracula. This is one of the very few horrors I actually call romantic, but I am drawn into Dracula's charm and sexuality.

It's a very old age version of a vampire film but that doesn't make it less worthy, it's a very gothic version of the tale and you know it's closely based on Bram Stoker's book written in 1897.

It's also the first vampire movie I was introduced to legendary vampire killers Van Helsing. Played by none other than Anthony Hopkins. His portrayal is definitely worthy of being mentioned he even beings slight humour to his role.

The next one on my list I always find is one of the lesser known vampire flicks and that is Near Dark.

Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen both star in this gritty vampire flick, a completely different take to the previous one I mentioned.

The premise of the film is about a farmer's son who gets seduced and bitten by a beautiful drifter and reluctantly tags along with her band of vampires.

It's a very raw, gritty movie that you can stick your teeth into (pun intended). It shows a completely different side to some of the "sexy" vampire films.

Number 3 on my list is a film I have previously mentioned but nevertheless deserves a place on this list.

The film in question is Fright night.

This movie is quintessentially 80s, the fashion, hairstyles and soundtrack.

The main plot of the movie revolves around teenager Charlie Brewster who becomes fascinated with his new neighbour and believes he is a vampire.

Chris Sarandon plays the sexy, charming vampire, Jerry Dandrige, who ends up seducing Charlie's girlfriend Amy. Along with his spunky sidekick Evil Ed, Charlie must save Amy from the throes of Mr Dandrige.

The prosthetics are incredible and I still think that the transformations can stand up today.

This movie has a special place in my horror heart as it is one of the first horrors I had ever watched and the very first vampire flick I watched.

There are many more movies I could have added to this list but I wanted to pick my favourites.

Again thanks for reading.

Tash.
