Schools Out for Summer - A Look at 'Scream'

As it's summer break here in England, I thought I'd take a look at my favourite horror movie set in a school.

The film in question is Scream, directed by Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson.

This movie cemented my love of Slasher movies, it defined the genre for me really. One of the best parts for me was having the antagonist question you based on your horror movie knowledge, then make you stumble on a trick question, which Drew Barrymore ultimately finds out.

Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson brought humour and wit to the characters and even breaks some of the "normal" rules in slasher movies, which Randy Meeks lists at a house party.

Let's not forget Marco Beltramis' amazing job at the score. The music fits in perfectly with every scene.

The film is primarily set in Woodsboro a (fictional town) and a portion set in Woodsboro high, a school which most of the characters attend, I think if Fonzie (Henry Winkler) was my headmaster I would have had a lot more fun, even Fred the janitor would have gave me some laughs.

I have watched this movie countless times, if you are a bit of a film fanatic like myself, check out the directors commentary on the DVD, it is fascinating and highly entertaining.

Let me know your thoughts and favourite high school horror.

Thanks for reading.
