Weird and Wonderful or Just Weird?

A friend recently reminded me of a little independent horror called Rubber, it's about a killer tyre named Robert which has telekinesis and goes on a rolling killing rampage to anything and anyone who stands in its way.

It had me think that it was one of the weirdest horrors that I had seen and I started listing other weird and wonderful horrors so what better place than to list them here.

Here are five of my favourite weird and wonderful horror movies.

1) Poultrygeist night of the chicken dead.

If I'm going to list weird movies then I have to include one from Troma entertainment.

Directed by Lloyd Kaufman

The film is based around a chicken fast food restaurant called American chicken bunker, after it is built on a Indian burial site, evil spirits of the Indians travel into the carcasses of the chickens, which turn them into chicken zombies!! The chickens then attack the staff who also turn into chicken zombies, all hell ensues and a few musical numbers are thrown in aswell in true Troma style!!!!  Definitely not one for the faint hearted but if you are a fan of Troma, check out the trailer below.

2) Troll 2
Directed by Claudio Fragasso

A family of 4 travel to a little village called Nilbog, unbeknown to them it is inhabited by goblins who can turn people into vegetation, so they can eat them. The queen of the goblins uses various items to try and defeat the family including a corn on the cob. Yes you read that right.

This film is so bizarre some of it doesn't make sense, it even has a documentary about it entitled "best worst movie" it has earned its cult status in my opinion.

3) Basket case.

Directed by Frank Henenlotter

Duane Bradley was born attached to his grotesquely deformed brother Belial. They were immediately separated by a surgeon. Years later the brothers join forces to seek revenge on the doctor that separated them, brutality ensues.

I have enjoyed this film so much, because it is so bizarre but the story about brotherly love does come through. Again this one has also earned a cult status in the horror community.

4) killer clowns from outer space.

Directed by Stephen, Charles and Edward Chiodo.

This one is definitely worthy of the weird and wonderful list.

A group of evil aliens land on earth and take over a small village, using humans as their food source, when two teenagers Mike and Debbie realise this is happening they contact the authorities, but they think it is a prank. One thing I haven't mentioned is the aliens resemble clowns. This is definitely worth a watch. Check out the trailer below.

5) Toxic Avenger

Another Troma classic.

Directed by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz.

If you haven't watched this beauty then you are definitely missing out.

This is the story of Melvin, he works in the Tromaville health spa as a cleaner. He gets mocked, bullied and ridiculed by the teenagers of the village who abuse the facilities at the health spa. Unfortunately Melvin isn't aware of his surroundings and falls into a vat of toxic waste. His alter ego his unleashed. The TOXIC AVENGER IS BORN!!!! he takes out the trash along with several of the bullies and takes upon himself to be Tromaville's newest superhero.

This particular film was a favourite of mine growing up, I could relate slightly to Melvin and definitely wanted bullies to get their comeuppance.

This is a gem of the 80s, yes it's weird but weird is sometimes wonderful.

Thanks for reading. What are your weird and wonderful horror movies?
