If you're a wrestling fan then it is a given that you love what happens inside the squared circle, but sometimes the entrance music is just as important, maybe even more in some cases than the actual performance. I mean, as a fan how do you get pumped for your favourite wrestler?
Easy. As soon as their music hits you simply jump out of your seat and start fist pumping to the music or perhaps even sing along. So, below are MY Top 10 Wrestling Theme Songs and they're in no particular order, except the moment they popped into that little brain of mine. My list was compiled from music from WWF/E, WCW and ECW. Sorry TNA and ROH.
10: Harry Slash And The Slashtones - This Is Extreme.
Okay. Can you call this an entrance theme? Well, I say yes. Did Paul Heyman use to use the music as his entrance? I believe so. Anyway, this to me was the entrance theme to ECW. As soon as I heard that first beat, that first syllable I knew that shit was about to go down. The music was the best fit for Extreme Championship Wrestling, it was as hard hitting and fresh as the product itself and it's still an awesome piece of music to this very day. I'm going to go out and say that this is the best music for a wrestling promotion EVER! Even better than the Raw is War theme of 1999? Yep. This sucker is just as extreme as the company that played it.
9: The Brood.
I freakin' loved the stable The Brood. Edge, Christian and Gangrel. They personified vampirism in the WWF/E. I still believe to this day that Gangrel is a legitimate vampire, I bet he is out there feasting on the blood of helpless virgins while playing this through his iPod. But yeah, not only was this them song awesome, The Brood's entrance is still one of the greatest entrances of all time. Witnessing them rising from the entrance ramp almost engulfed in flames was truly a sight to behold, it's as if they have actually arisen from the fire and brimstone of hell, it was that awesome.
8: What Up Mach? - Macho Man Randy Savage.
Finally! The late great Macho Man Randy Savage is inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, just a shame it happened after his unfortunate passing, but I'm so glad he is finally in as he was the man. But as you know, Randy Savage was one heck of an intense individual, from his wrestling to his promos, he was hyped 24/7 so it only makes sense to have his entrance music as pumped as he was. That's why his entrance music from WCW is one of the greatest ever. As soon as you heard that opening line you knew that your blood was about to get an injection of Macho Mania!
7: Glass Smash - Stone Cold Steve Austin.
When you talk about getting pumped for a match as soon as you hear the music hit, I don't think anything does it better than Stone Cold Steve Austin's theme music. As soon as you heard that glass shatter and that thumping riff, you knew someone was going to get an ass-beating. It was going to be a slobber knocker! And some S.O.B. was going to get bit by the Rattlesnake. Even to this day, if I dropped a mirror on the floor and the glass shatters I'd hit the roof! As JR would say Stone Cold! Stone Cold! Bah Gawd it's Stone Cold!
6: Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck - Justin Credible.
Thank you ECW. Thank you for giving us some of the greatest theme songs ever and some of the greatest wrestling names ever. This guy isn't just the coolest. He isn't just the best. He's Justin Credible! Oh, damn! So how do you introduce a guy that is just incredible? Well, you have them come out to a cover of Prong's Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck, and for me it was just an awesome song that the crowd got involved with too.
5: The Undertaker - Dark Side/The Corporate Ministry.
Being a massive horror fan, The Undertaker has always been a sure fire favourite with me. He encompassed that whole vision of fear, evil and brooding presence. So how do you capitalise on that? You give him some brooding sinister music to slowly walk out to, and with The Ministry in tow, he was a dominate force and no-one with their marbles in check would mess with this dude. I mean, he crucified the Boss' daughter!
But, I'm going to cheat a little with this one, here you're getting two songs for the price of one! With The Ministry, they meshed Vince McMahon's theme music with The Ministry's music so perfectly and that's why it's included below as well.
4: American Made - Hulk Hogan.
I'm just going to throw this out there and I know a lot will disagree, but I hate, hate his WWE theme music. I mean, this is the Hulkster we are talking about here. Okay, I may not be his biggest supporter, but he practically made wrestling mainstream. Doesn't it make sense for him to have something perhaps a little more hard hitting? Well, that's why I love his theme music from WCW, American Made. It summed up who he is and what his mission is. While I'm not American, this song makes me wish I was.
3: Walk - Rob Van Dam.
Rob Van Dam. Mr. Monday Night. Mr. Pay-Per-View. The Whole Fuckin' Show! This man is possibly the most talented wrestler EVER! Don't get me wrong their have been some truly awesome wrestlers and judging by the indie scene at the moment, the new guys are definitely pushing their game and that is possibly due to this man, RVD! So, how do you introduce a man of this calibre to the hostile ECW crowd? You have him come out to Pantera's Walk, well, actually Kilgore's cover, but none-the-less, it got the crowd pumped and as soon as you heard that first riff. Damn, you knew someone was going to be on the receiving end of a Van Daminator or in some occasion, the skull shattering Van Terminator!
2: Debonaire - Rhino.
The man beast, Rhino! When ever you hear the word spear there are two that stand out. No, not Edge or Roman Reigns, it's Goldberg and this man, Rhino! Although his is called the "Gore" but if he hit you with this he would literally snap you in half. But you think he's done? Ha! Not by a long shot. Rhino would pick up your severed body and piledrive you from the apron to the concrete floor! Thus, his entrance theme Dope by Debonaire was enough to get you pumped for this beast of a man.
1: If You Smell... - The Rock.
The Rock has had a dozen of theme songs all gradually changing, But for some reason past 2000, they progressively got worse and thus his latest entrance music sucks more monkey ass than a roody-poo candy ass! But there is one. One that rises above all the rest, and that's his them from the year 2000. As soon as you hear these words, "If you smell... What the Rock is cooking." The entire arena would erupt. While the song may not be much, it's just the simple energy of it that made the whole atmosphere so electric. You knew someone was going to get the Rock Bottom or The People's Elbow, and then be given some verbal abuse, which usually involves monkey's.
So there you have it. That's my top 10 Wrestling Theme Songs. But I must point out that this list changes daily. It changes more often than Mick Foley's personalities. So while today this is my list, I can guarantee you if you asked me tomorrow it would be something else. Right now I'm thinking of The Sandman's theme, Sting's Crow theme. The list goes on. But how about you, what's yours?
