I was writing that headline, and used the words "small screen," which indicates that it's a TV show, because, well, TVs are smaller than cinema screens. But is that still the case? I mean have you seen some of these TVs? I swear they're almost as big, if not bigger than some.
But back to the TV series. It has been announced that a Hellraiser TV series is making the rounds again and perhaps this one may actually get off the ground. Make your way within as we have such sights to show you. Well, maybe not, but you get the idea.
According to the folks over at Deadline, It producer Roy Lee and Ready Player One producer Dan Farah are set to bring Hellraiser to the small screen with a TV show, for the first time ever. The duo have teamed up with producer-rightsholders Lawrence Kuppin, David Salzman and Eric Gardner, who have held those TV rights since New World was sold in 1989.
In regards to the series, they plan to use the mythology that was established in Clive Barker's Hellraiser and the franchise in general, as well as leaning towards Barker's novella The Hellbound Heart.
At this time the producers are seeking a writer-showrunner, before they get the ball rolling.
So, do you think a Hellraiser TV series could work? I think it could. The world that Barker initially created opens up doors to all kinds of scenarios, and with a slew of Cenobites, we could have stories much like Tales from the Crypt. But who knows, it's definitely intriguing. Here's hoping that this one actually goes ahead, I'll be keeping my eye firmly on this one.
