Top Five Extreme Moments from Extreme Championship Wrestling - Part 2

Welcome back, guys! Yes, it's me with my second instalment into my Top Five Extreme Moments from ECW, I love doing this lists as it's quite a nostalgia thing, but anyway, let's get on to it. For those of you who know me will know that I absolutely loved ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling). It was a promotion that was so ahead of its time. It was fresh, new and did things that no other promotion would ever think of doing. They were revolutionary. A mixture of high-flying, fast-paced wrestling that was mixed with hard rocking entrances and hardcore wrestling. It truly was something else.

Now, there have been a slew of promotions that have obviously been inspired by ECW, and they have took extreme to a whole new level, but I've got to say, it's just not the same. ECW did it differently, it wasn't just the extreme violence, the guys doing these things were freakin' talented and quite frankly there will never be another ECW. So, here is my second instalment into the ongoing Top Five Extreme Moments from ECW.

As always, viewer discretion is advised.

5. Tommy Dreamer vs. The Sandman - Singapore Cane Match.

Way back in the early days of ECW, the soon to be named Innovator of Violence, Tommy Dreamer, was nothing more than a pretty boy. No-one really cared for him, he was I guess vanilla. I didn't really have an identity that people could get behind so he was pretty much floundering.

That was until the feud between Dreamer and The Sandman began and it really took off when the two were in a Singapore Cane match, a match where the loser would receive ten vicious lashes to the back via the Singapore cane. Now, Dreamer lost the match and upon doing so, he stood up, revealed his back and gripped the ropes like a man and began to take shot after vicious shot. His back would begin to lacerate and at this time, even The Sandman was feeling sympathy for him.

But, that wasn't it, as soon as Dreamer felt that The Sandman was feeling sympathy for him, Dreamer took the microphone from the announcer and uttered in these legendary words, "Please sir, may I have another!?" to which got to everyone. This guy was hardcore, and well, the rest is history. The innovator of violence was born.

4.Terry Funk vs. Cactus Jack - The Public Enemy Interfere.

It was back at ECW's 1994 Hardcore Heaven event where Cactus Jack and Terry Funk would face off against each other, but the moment that stands out most was when The Public Enemy interfered into the match and began battling both men. You might be thinking, "well, that's not much."

However, it was when Funk called a fan to throw a chair into the ring and upon doing so hordes of chairs began being flown through the air into the ring burying The Public Enemy in the process. The ring was engulfed with chairs and The Public Enemy were engulfed. Since then, this image has played throughout ECW and has been etched in the minds of extreme wrestling fans ever since.

3. Mike Awesome vs. Masato Tanaka - Every Match.

For what ever reason, WCW and WWE/F dropped the ball with Mike Awesome, which was a little strange considering the guy was huge, could work a match and looked like he'd legitimately hurt you if given the chance. But, Paul Heyman and ECW seen something in Awesome and he became the monster. But his most memorable feuds was with Masato Tanaka, who took Awesome to the next level and cemented his legacy.

Their wars together were BRUTAL. The chair shots Tanaka would take could be hears throughout the arena, you could literally hear his skull fracture, and yet, the crazy bastard kept coming back for more. Awesome and Tanaka had great chemistry and thankfully they got to face each other one last time during WWE's reboot of ECW during ECW One Night Stand 2005, and they didn't miss a beat. Mike Awesome, for me, will always be remembered for his feud with Tanaka. R.I.P Awesome, thank you for the battles.

2. Tommy Dreamer vs. Raven - Heat Wave 1995.

Much like Awesome and Tanaka, you could choose any match between Raven and Dreamer, during their lengthy feud, but one of their most extreme moments took place during the end of someone else's match. It was Heat Wave 1995 and Stevie Richards just lost to Luna Vachon via submission in a cage match, it was a freakin' awesome match, do check it out if you can find it.

At the end it was Tommy Dreamer and Raven. Dreamer handcuffed Raven to the cage and struck Raven with a chair to the cranium, which soon became the "chair shot heard around the world", it was insane! After that, it would be hard to miss, as that moment was played during the opening of the show ever since.

1. D-Von Dudley & Kulas vs. The Gangsters - The Mass Transit Incident.

Here's a brief lesson in life for some of you kids. Don't lie about your age, don't EVER ask New Jack to "blade" you, because, well, New Jack will mess you up. It also doesn't help if you're arrogant backstage before your match with New Jack.

So, the match was scheduled to be Axl Rotten, who sadly recently passed away, to team with D-Von against The Gangsters (New Jack and Mustafa Saed) but due to a family emergency Axl Rotten couldn't make it. So, in comes Kulas, aged 17, but told Heyman he was 19 and was trained by Killer Kowalski, which turned out to be false, his father allegedly also vouched for his son. So, here's this 17 year old, who wasn't trained, went toe-to-toe with New Jack and asked him to "blade" him, what resulted next was one of the bloodiest moments EVER, as New jack accidentally cut too deep and severed two arteries in Kulas's forehead. The match was never televised, but was recorded by the Extreme Fan Cam. Kulas sadly passed away at the age of 22 due to certain complications from gastric bypass surgery.

And that was that. Another Top Five Extreme Moments from ECW. If you missed the first part you can check that one out HERE. Once again, thank you for reading.
