The mad scientist and former president of ECW, Paul Heyman, has been announced as the new executive director of Monday Night Raw and the former president of WCW, Eric Bischoff, has been named as the executive director of Smackdown Live! It's a move that I don't think anyone foreseen coming to fruition and that's why we are absolutely stoked.
According to a press release released via WWE.com, both executive directors will report to WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon.
Heyman and Bischoff will oversee the creative development of WWE’s flagship programming and ensure integration across all platforms and lines of business. The creation of these roles further establishes WWE’s ability to continuously reinvent its global brand while providing two distinct creative processes for its flagship shows. One of the major reasons I stopped watching both Raw and Smackdown was due to both just lacking engaging stories, at least, in my opinion. Which actually saddens me as I used to watch both religiously, but something just changed and sadly they lost me as a viewer.
And speaking of Raw and Smackdown, the only difference between the two, other than the name is just a color difference and slightly different roster, there really isn't much that separates the two apart, so this is where I'm hoping that Bischoff and Heyman will be given much more control so they can make either brand standout from one another.
Either way, it's exciting times to be a wrestling fan again, as there is so much choice. Not one needs to be better than the other. You can be a fan of WWE, Impact, AEW etc or all of them at the same time, just love what you love.
So, what would you like to see happen?
