Ryan Kruger Takes Us On a Heroin Induced Trip in 'Fried Barry'
I just love the horror genre and film in general, it's so vast with almost endless possibilities. What's even better is when you discover something that just makes you go "Whoa!" It stops you dead in your tracks and you have no other option than to pay attention.
That is pretty much exactly what happened to me when I averted my eyes to Ryan Kruger's experimental short Fried Barry. It's an absolutely trip, in more ways than one.
Now I've never really done any drugs, especially not heroin, but Kruger has potentially captured the visual effects of someone who has, and it's actually quite terrifying, and rightly so.
So, within we I take a look at Fried Barry, as well as giving you guys your first look at the feature film which is based upon said short.

'He Took His Skin Off For Me' in This Short Film
Being a huge fan of Hellraiser and simply seeing a a brief preview of some guy with his skin peeled off, I knew I was about to watch something truly awesome and that's exactly the case with Ben Aston's grid film project He Took His Skin Off For Me. The short is shot so well and the story simply comes together. It's basically a fairy-tale, a tale of love and romance with copious amounts of the red stuff thrown in for good measure. I would call this a horror short, but I believe it is really in the eye of the beholder. Either way, this is an awesome short, so make your way below and check out some original talent.

The Return of the Werewolf in The Beast
The werewolf is unfortunately one of the more forgot about monsters despite being well known. I'm sure you have seen the influx of vampire flicks over the years and more recently the rise in the zombie, but how about the absolute beast that is the werewolf? Its kind of brushed aside and hardly heard of again, if it is, then its absolutely destroyed and made a mockery of. What ever happened to the like's of John Landis' An American Werewolf in London? The practical effects, the intense brutality of the beast, its pretty much non existent, thankfully our voice has been heard.
Recently the werewolf has been popping up in horror short films which has once again recaptured the true essence of the werewolf. The most recent is Peter Dukes' The Beast which stars current genre fave and absolute badass, Bill Oberst, Jr, Below you can find their film short film The Beast, and believe me when I say it is awesome!
Its a truly beautiful piece of filmmaking along with outstanding performances which is crying out for a feature length version. I absolutely love it and I think you guys will too, embrace the true werewolf and support indie horror, get Hollywood to take notice that we don't want lame werewolves with 'sparkling' vampires. We want the beast to be a beast and cause horror. Anyway, I encourage you to check out the short below, and hit up the filmmakers to let them know they are doing an outstanding job.

Experience the Fallout in Nuka Break
To say I'm a little obsessed with the world of the video games 'Fallout', is a bit of an understatement, I basically sleep and eat the game. It is brilliant as I'm sure you're aware. If you too love the Fallout universe and have been chopping at the bit for even more, the guys over at Wayland Creations have created a short based on the games which is entitled Fallout: Nuka Break. You can view that one below.
If you like what you see, hit up their YouTube channel and check out their latest incarnation, Fallout: Nuka Break the series, this will keep you going until the next Fallout game is released.

Death Lurks in The Earth Rejects Him
Jared Skolnick's The Earth Rejects Him looks set to be one heck of a macabre ride, and I'm loving every single piece of it. What would you do if you found a corpse in the woods, bearing in mind you're about 12yrs. You'd probably freak the heck out and try to bury it, but sometimes its not that easy, death will always linger.
As you can tell, I'm super pumped for this one, it definitely has that eerie and sinister feel, this is exactly why I love the genre so much.

What Should have Been - Hellraiser: No More Souls
I've been having this nagging feeling ever since I first witnessed Gary J. Tunnicliffe's horror short No More Souls nearly five years ago. Why wasn't the recent sequel a feature version of this? I mean, I'm sure you guys witnessed the recent sequel, Hellraiser: Revelations and was scratching your head as to what just happened.
But, the material was here, plan as day, and it was disregarded. So yeah, I was a little disappointed, as No More Souls is the most closest to Clive Barker's original since the sequel. Its dark, its brooding, its freaking violent. Still, I enjoyed Revelations for the simple fact that the cenobites where back and Mr. Tunnicliffe supplied the carnage, but that's about it. Anyway, check out the short below and see if you don't agree.

You're Gonna Need a Bigger Cage - Night of the Hell Hamsters!
As much as I love the horror genre, there is something severely lacking and that is the presence of a brain-munching furry monster known as a hamster. They're the perfect killing machines, shark claws, super strong teeth and pockets in their mouths to store away food for a later time. They're a well oiled killing machine which deserves our attention.
As I was saying that the genre needs more of these rodents of death, a little horror short surfaced a few years back entitled Night of the Hell Hamsters from Paul Campion, and I loved every single minute of it. To try and share awareness and my love for the short, I'd thought I'd give you guys the trailer below. But, you can also hit their official website for the full onslaught.
Synopsis: "On a dark and stormy night, Julie and her boyfriend Karl fool around with the occult and inadvertently summon up a demon which possesses the family hamsters. Suddenly Julie and Karl find themselves fighting for their lives against a tiny furry, bloodthirsty supernatural evil from the very pits of Hell!"
