Zombies, Freakers and Rippers oh my! **spoilers**

There are quite a few zombie games out on various platforms, the most iconic being resident evil then closely followed by silent hill. I recently discovered a game called Days Gone, I never really heard of it until i saw a post on Instagram, I wasn't really sure of the concept of the game as all i saw was a picture of stunning scenery and a guy on a motorbike, with the words open world drawing my attention.

Sega CD Classic 'Corpse Killer' to Celebrate 25 Years on PS4

Remember back in the day when we thought FMV (full motion video) was the future of gaming? Man, those were the days. We had the Panasonic 3DO and the Philips CDi, but sadly they never really took off.

But then again, neither did the Sega CD or 32X, but we did get some killer FMV-style games, and if you missed your chance, well, Screaming Villains are set to unleash Corpse Killer onto the PS4 and Stream to celebrate the 25th anniversary so you can finally witness it in all its glory. Okay, maybe glory is the wrong word, but you can witness it, that's something. But really, this looks fun, you should check it out for its pure fun.

A Trip to Racoon City.

Following on from my last post on Death Stranding, I thought I would take a trip down memory lane and revisit the first game that introduced me to survival horror.
The game in question has become a world wide phenomenon, with multiple games, several film releases and merchandise, and I would even say it has a cult status.

Of course I am talking about the franchise Resident Evil.

Hideo Kojima is a name most gaming fans will probably recognize, he is a Japanese video game designer, he created one of the most recognizable game franchises which is Metal Gear Solid 1990- present.
                           

You Decide! A Journey into 'Until Dawn'

I recently played and completed Until Dawn, which is an interactive horror game developed by Supermassive games released in 2015.

Has Lara still got it?

I have been a gamer for as long as I can remember, started out on the NES, played the classics such as Megaman, Super Mario and Castlevania.

It wasn't until Playstation released the female Indiana Jones~ Lara Croft A.K.A Tomb Raider I then realised how much gaming meant to me. The intricate puzzles paired with combat. Was a match made in heaven to me.

I must admit I was very apprehensive when a reboot was in the mix and due to be released in 2013.

I was pleasantly surprised, Lara was now a younger female on her journey to becoming the Tomb Raider. Puzzles were more intense and combat increased with an option to "purchase" new skills.

Fast forward to 2018 The long awaited Shadow of the Tomb Raider was released and my oh my, it didn't let me down, it had a darker theme, notes of horror, even a few jump scares. I was always a Tomb Raider fan, and I am pleased to say that my journey with Lara has definitely not ended yet.

Retro Revisit: Friday the 13th (NES)

This week I'm looking back at another NES game based upon a popular horror movie franchise, Friday the 13th. Sadly, this one has been regarded as one of the worst and maybe even the worst video game of all time, doesn't sound too hot.

I can understand the gripe with this one, most notably is the story. In the films we are presented with a group of teenager counselors who just so happen to have stumbled upon Jason's ground, the ground where massacre's will and have happened, and slow they are picked off one by one.

 Sadly the game took a different approaching, instead of running away from the crazed lunatic, you're left to control the six characters while getting confused as to who or what you're doing. Also you're on the hunt to find Jason, yep, you've got to find this hulking beast and if you don't find him in time, a member of your party gets the machete, probably in between the eyes.

However, if you're a fan of the franchise, this will probably appeal to you due to the nostalgia. Or perhaps its one of those games that you just love to hate, either way, this is another one which should find a home on the newer consoles. I'm game for some hack n' slash action courtesy of Jason.

Experience the Fallout in Nuka Break

To say I'm a little obsessed with the world of the video games 'Fallout', is a bit of an understatement, I basically sleep and eat the game. It is brilliant as I'm sure you're aware. If you too love the Fallout universe and have been chopping at the bit for even more, the guys over at Wayland Creations have created a short based on the games which is entitled Fallout: Nuka Break. You can view that one below.

Retro Revisit: A Nightmare on Elm Street (NES)

As a passionate gamer and a fan of the genre I've always thought to myself, "Why hasn't A Nightmare on Elm Street game been made for the newer consoles?". I mean, look at how far the gaming world has come, the visuals and the sound have crossed a milestone, it is a breathtaking time to be a gamer.

Now many of you may remember this one from way back in the day, around 1990 I believe. A Nightmare on Elm Street was created for the Nintendo Entertainment System, as was his rival Jason in Friday the 13th. While being an absolute fan-boy of the Elm Street franchise I quickly hunted this sucker down (which isn't easy to do)  and was pleasantly surprised. Yes it looks a plays like a low-rent rip-off version of the classic Castlevania, but it has Freddy Krueger!

Granted, his presence is limited and you are usually left facing off against some other creature, most of the time being ghosts and other demons. The great part for me was having to collect cups of coffee which replenishes your sleep meter, this also diminishes through time and when you are injured. The major let down for me was when we finally meet the demon stalker, Freddy Kruger in the boss battle, lets just say, there was more difficulty with one of the ghosts than the actual boss.

So, yes, that was a let down. Also, the game was created by RARE, yep, the same guys that in the future would create possibly the greatest FPS shooter ever, Goldeneye!

So here is where I stand. The world of Freddy Kruger is basically a gamer's paradise, anything is possible. The only negative is the licensing, but who knows. Anyway, for me this has the potential to be a great game especially with the power of today's consoles. Also I think it would be a neat idea if you had the choice of playing one of the 'Dream Warriors' or playing as Fred Krueger himself. Perhaps one day, one day, my dream may come true of a new Nightmare on Elm Street game.
